Because of Christmas…

December 21, 2025   /   Phil Ortego   /   Scotts Hill Baptist Church

Most Christians are theoretical Christians when it comes to Christmas. They are trying to be happy without a sense of presence. A.W. Tozer

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14

And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son … He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. Luke 1:31-32

“Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:20

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:22-23

Because of Christmas, God is with us.

Here is the amazing yet absurd truth: Jesus entered our world not only like a human but as a human.

Why Did Jesus Come?

  1. Jesus came to to us the heart of the Father.
  • For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world – to bear witness to the truth. John 18:37

  1. Jesus came to us from our sin.
  • For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45

Why was Jesus born in Bethlehem?

a. To fulfill

  • “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.” Micah 5:2

b. To illustrate his

  • “And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” Luke 2:6-7
  • “’And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths an lying in a manger.’” Luke 2:12

  1. Jesus came to us from self.
  • For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Luke 19:10
  • The of the human problem is the problem of the human .
  • Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. (Matt. 1:20–21)

  1. Jesus came to us that we are not alone.
  • I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20
  • I will never leave you nor forsake you. Heb. 13:5
  • May every present remind us of his presence.
  • May every song remind us of his salvation.
  • May every light remind us of his love.
