Galatians 2:11-14,

When Paul Rebuked Peter

October 12, 2025 / Jeff Poteat / Galatians 2:11-14

1.  No one is the gospel.

  • But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.
  • “…and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.” – Galatians 2:9

2. Gospel centered living attention.

  • 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles;

3. Even the most christians are still

  • …but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party.
  • “When we desire the approval of others so much that we seek to please them more than God.”
  • For we all stumble in many ways. James 3:2

4. Our affects .

  • 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

5. We need to help us stay on the and its implications.

  • “But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”
  • “11 When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.” – Galatians 2:11
  • “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.” – Galatians 6:1
  • “15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters…” –  2 Peter 3:15-16

Take home truths:

Past do not us from present.

Present does not necessarily future .

God has put us in a of faith to help us in step with the gospel.
