Love is Worth Waiting For

December 22, 2024 / Love is Worth Waiting For / 1 John 3:1-3

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” (I John 1:1)

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” (I John 3:2)

“And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.” (I John 3:3)

  1. The Father’s love for me is an love.

“See what kind of love…”

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still  sinners, Christ died for us.”   (Romans 5:8)

          2. The Father’s love for me is an love.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us…

“to the praise of the glory of His grace which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us.” (Ephesians 1:6-8)

“For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.” (John 1:16)

          3. The Father’s love for me is an love.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” (1 John 3:1)

“For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, ‘Abba! Father!’”  (Romans 8:15)

          4. The Father’s love for me is an  love.

The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as he to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (I Corinthians 2:14-16)

         5. The Father’s love for me is an love.

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” (I John 3:2)

“But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (II Cor. 3:18)

          6. The Father’s love for me is an love.

“And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.” (I John 3:3)

“to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you.” (I Peter 1:4)

The critical question for our generation – and for every generation is this: if you could have heaven, with no sickness, and with all the friends you ever had on earth, and all the food you ever liked, and all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauties you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, and no human conflict or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with heaven without Christ? – John Piper
