Deeper Discipleship – We Study God’s Word

November 3, 2024 / Phil Ortego / 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Why Do We Study God’s Word?

  1. We study the Bible because it is .

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”  2 Timothy 3:16-17

  1. The Bible is by God.
  2. The Bible Is in God.

Truth that is never becomes .

c.  The Bible Is in Me.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

God’s word is a book.

God’s word is an book.

God’s word is a book.

2.  We study the Bible because it is an for our lives.

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes” Psalm 19:7-8

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fin gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.” Psalm 19:9-10

  1. The Bible my soul.
  2. The Bible my mind.
  3. The Bible my heart.
  4. The Bible my vision.
  5. The Bible with my culture.
  6. The Bible my life.

This Book is the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding; its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s character.

Here paradise is restored, heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. Follow its precepts and it will lead you to Calvary, to the empty tomb, to a resurrected life in Christ; yes, to glory itself, for eternity.”
