Is Jesus The Only Way?

June 16, 2024 / Jim Dunn / John 14:6

“The question of whether Jesus is the exclusive way to heaven has become a ‘watershed’ issue in evangelicalism. Perhaps more than any other attack against Christians, the world seems to paint evangelicals as intolerant, legalistic, and hateful because they believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven.” – Alex McFarland

So this morning we want to answer the question, “Is Jesus the only way to heaven?” by looking at the myths from our culture and the exclusivity of Christ.

  • The Myths of Our Culture
    1. The myth of – The belief that we all worship the same God or that all religions lead to God.
    2. The myth of – Is the belief that all religions are equally valid and teaches that every person is going to heaven no matter what he believes.
    3. The myth of – In addition to pluralism, there is inclusivism which is not as broad as pluralism. Inclusivism teaches that people are saved because of the death and grace of Christ, but people from other religions will be saved who never heard of Jesus “through no fault of their own.”
    4. The myth of – The view according to which morality is relative to a culture or an individual. Your truth is your truth and my truth is my truth. Just live and let live, to each his own, who am I to judge?
    5. The myth of – Secular humanism is a non-religious belief system that combines humanist ethics with the idea that God does not exist.

  • The Exclusivity of Christ

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6

  • Jesus is the – Answering the question, “How can I be Saved?
    • “I am the way…No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6a
    • “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12
  • Jesus is the – Answering the question, “How can I be Sure?
    • “I am the truth…No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6b
  • Jesus is the – Answering the question, “How can I be Satisfied?
    • “I am the life…No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6c

  • Our Response
    1. to Christ
      1. that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness
      2. in the Lord Jesus Christ as your only means of salvation
        1. Repenting of your sin and trusting in the work of Christ for the forgiveness of your sin.
      3. to follow Christ daily
    2. Engage the

“To tell the truth is a tough business, especially in a culture that rejects the very idea of truth as something which is fixed and universal and objective and absolute.” – Allister Begg
