As we move into chapter five, Paul begins by telling us that we are to walk like our heavenly Father walks. Paul mentions four strides of our heavenly Father. This morning we will cover two of those strides. Let’s begin by reading the passage together.
Ephesians 5:1-14
We are told in this passage before us that there are two communicable attributes of our heavenly Father that we are to imitate. First,
- We are to walk in .
“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Ephesians 5:1-2)
Two Marks Of Walking in Love:
- A life of .
“…as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us…” (Ephesians 5:2)
“For God so loved the world that He gave…” (John. 3:16)
2. A life of .
“an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”
“for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)
2. We are to walk in .
7 Marks Of Walking in Light:
Why We Should Pursue This Walk:
Paul gives us three reasons we should pursue this kind of a walk as children of God.
- Because of the motive (5:3).
- Because of the motive (5:7-9).
“Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),” (Ephesians 5:7-9)
3. Because of the motive (5:10-13).
“And try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,” (Ephesians 5:10-13)
